OPEN MIC SESSIONS
The GT Open Mic Sessions took place every Thursday night for seven years at The King's Head (King's Road, Guildford, GU1 4JW). They ran weekly from 2013 until the Covid lockdown, and provided one of the friendliest, most supportive atmospheres for live music in town. They were hugely popular with both performers and audiences alike, and the Players List regularly booked three months in advance.
The sessions were hosted by Gavin Thomas who ran the sound desk for all of the acts. Gavin has been involved in Guildford's live music scene for over thirty years. He set up the town's first regular Open Mic Night at Beaver's Bar (Jeffries Passage, Guildford GU1 4AP) in 1997, and then developed and hosted the Guildford Songwriters sessions at The Electric Theatre from 2001 to 2002. He coordinated and hosted the GT Open Mic Sessions from 2013.
We are very sorry to say that, since the Covid lockdown, the GT Live Sessions are no longer running an Open Mic Night. The King’s Head night is currently on hold, and the only weekly session staged by the GT Live Sessions is the Showcase Night at The Britannia every Wednesday. These are invited sets only, and it is not an Open Mic Night. More information here, or on the Facebook page.
The GT Live Sessions have hosted countless performances from truly exceptional artists over the years. Here’s a reminder of some of their lovely faces. (For more photographs, and further information about the amazing people who took them, please visit the photographers page).
